Let's firstly review other protocols that common to see in the video transmission field.
RTSP: The Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) is a network control protocol designed for use in entertainment and communications systems to control streaming media servers. The protocol is used for establishing and controlling media sessions between end points.
RTMP: RTMP stands for real-time messaging protocol. It provides for high-performance transmission of audio, video, and data from an encoder to a server, which distributes the signal across the Internet. Many streaming providers and encoder developers support RTMP streaming, including Livestream.
HLS: HLS is an HTTP-based adaptive bitrate streaming communications protocol implemented by Apple Inc. as part of its QuickTime, Safari, OS X, and iOS software. Client implementations are also available in Microsoft Edge, Firefox and some versions of Google Chrome. Support is widespread in streaming media servers.
UDP: UDP (User Datagram Protocol) is an alternative communications protocol to Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) used primarily for establishing low-latency and loss-tolerating connections between applications on the internet.
RTP: The Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) is a network protocol for delivering audio and video over IP networks. RTP is used in communication and entertainment systems that involve streaming media, such as telephony, video teleconference applications including WebRTC, television services and web-based push-to-talk features.
NDI: Network Device Interface (NDI) is a royalty-free software standard developed by NewTek to enable video-compatible products to communicate, deliver, and receive broadcast quality video in a high quality, low latency manner that is frame-accurate and suitable for switching in a live production environment.

What makes NDI speacial from other protocols?
NDI makes it easy to transition to an IP workflow, bringing your work and workflow to a level you never imagined.
With a simple download, you can integrate more devices and applications into your workflow, insert more content into your show, and expand your video opportunities across the network.
NDI's powerful scalability, flexibility and reliable performance make it suitable for live broadcasts of all sizes. Compatible with many devices, making the live broadcast more rich, and the live broadcast effect is more professional. Live play is more arbitrary.
In the past, only the professional live broadcast team was able to do the job. Now you can also capture the wonderful anytime, anywhere. Abandon traditional processes, let NDI processes disrupt the industry and integrate all workflows.
Real-time streaming media pushes live broadcast signals to the platform through the network, allowing more viewers to watch the live broadcast. Full resolution video signals can be recorded for post-editing. You can also distribute your broadcast content.
